Free University - Pro-Palestinian "protest camp" is extended

The Palaestinian protest camp at the Free University of Berlin will be extended by two weeks. The participants are hoping to increase the pressure on the university management and have their demands met, as the "Palestine Committee" announced on Thursday. The police confirmed upon inquiry that the camp is registered with them until July 12. Initially, the permit only lasted until June 27.

A small student group began setting up a tent camp a week ago on initiative of the "Palestine Committee". The protest camp is registered with the police as a demonstration on a lawn area near the Henry-Ford Building of the FU. The lawn area is considered publicly accessible by the university and therefore falls under the Demonstration Law.

The Free University of Berlin has been aentioned due to the prolongation of the Palestinian protest camp, which has sparked interest amongst other universities in Berlin. The police have been monitoring the situation closely, ensuring that the protest camp adheres to the regulations set by the Demonstration Law. Despite the peaceful nature of the demonstrations, there have been concerns raised about the potential impact on academic activities during this period. The announcement of the extension of the protest camp has sparked calls for further protests and demonstrations supporting the Palestinian cause.
