Process - Prison sentences after knife attack in S-Bahn station
Following a life-threatening knife attack at the Konstablerwache S-Bahn station in Frankfurt, two men have been sentenced to prison. The 20-year-old stabber received two years and nine months from the Frankfurt Regional Court on Wednesday, the co-defendant of the same age two years without probation. The incident took place on a staircase in January of this year.
The crime was preceded by an altercation between the defendants and other passengers in a subway, during which the men spat at and insulted the passengers. When they also burst a packet of drinks on a staircase, the later victim confronted them. One of the defendants pulled out a knife and stabbed the 35-year-old in the back, causing life-threatening injuries to his artery and lungs and necessitating emergency surgery.
Nevertheless, the defendants were not convicted of attempted manslaughter, but of causing grievous bodily harm. They had withdrawn from the attempted murder in good time, according to the reasons for the verdict. However, the jury court also denied the co-defendant a suspended sentence - his negative social prognosis argued in favor of a prison sentence, according to the court. The verdict is already final.
