Prison sentence for fatal traffic accident

A driver in Frankfurt has been sentenced to two years and eight months in prison for causing a traffic accident that left one person dead and one seriously injured. In addition, the district court ordered a three-year ban on driving licenses and had the 30-year-old defendant arrested in the courtroom after the verdict on Monday evening due to the risk of absconding. The verdict is not yet final.

Although he did not have a driver's license, the defendant reversed a van in Frankfurt-Kalbach at far too high a speed in July 2021. He hit a 51-year-old woman and her daughter (29), who were unloading her trunk. The mother died when she fell to the ground, the daughter suffered severe bruising to her legs. During the trial, the defendant denied that he had been driving. However, he could be convicted through witness statements and DNA traces in the vehicle.

The criminal processes surrounding thistraffic accident involved examining witness statements and analyzing DNA traces in the involved vehicle. Despite the severe judgments, the defendant posed a risk of absconding due to his crime, leading to his immediate arrest after the verdict.
