Prison sentence for 36-year-old after attack on camera crew in Hamburg
In May, according to the prosecution, a 36-year-old man is said to have approached members of a Spiegel TV camera team at S-Bahnhof Reeperbahn. He is alleged to have insulted them as "lying press" and obstructed their way. The camera team was accompanying federal police officers during their intervention for the Hafengeburtag.
The proceedings against the Spiegel-TV employees were reportedly dropped, according to the spokesperson, due to a witness being prevented. In addition, the court held the view that the sentence, considering the other accusations, would not be significant. The trial also dealt with other offenses. The man was sentenced to three further counts of aggravated battery.
The 36-year-old, facing charges in the public prosecutor's office, was supposed to appear before the local court in Hamburg for the incident at S-Bahnhof Reeperbahn. Despite the presence of a camera crew from Sat.1, the details of the imprisonment were not publicly shared. The man's attorney argued for leniency, considering the already-imposed prison sentence for the other offenses. The court spokeswoman announced the verdict, which included a prison sentence for the attack and additional penalties for the aggravated battery charges.
