- Prison-bound suspect hailing from Solingen, found in North Rhine-Westphalia's detention facilities.
After the lethal knife assault in Solingen, the suspect has made a return to North Rhine-Westphalia. As per the German Press Agency's reports from security sources, the 26-year-old was moved to Düsseldorf Prison on Sunday, following a bail review session at the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) in Karlsruhe.
A judge from the BGH issued an arrest warrant, supposedly due to suspicions of belonging to the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) and for murder. Subsequently, the Syrian was escorted to a helicopter by a team of heavily armed police officers. The helicopter journey led to NRW, with Düsseldorf Prison located near the city border in the surrounding town of Ratingen.
The Federal Prosecutor's Office alleges that the suspect had been contemplating "to kill as many people as possible who he deemed non-believers". Investigators claim that he intentionally and repeatedly stabbed attendees of the Solingen city festival in the neck and chest area with a knife. Tragically, three individuals perished, while eight others were injured, four of them severely.
The suspect, accused of murder and suspected ties to IS, was transferred to Düsseldorf Prison, located in North Rhine-Westphalia. Due to the seriousness of the crimes committed in Solingen, the suspect had been contemplating targeting individuals perceived as non-believers in North Rhine-Westphalia.
