Prior to his visit, Putin extends gratitude to North Korea for backing the aggression in Ukraine.

Based on authorities in Russia, Putin is set to touch down in North Korea on Tuesday evening for his trip. This marks Putin's second visit to the nation during his term as head of state. Following his installation as President in 2000, the Kremlin's top dog had a sit-down with Kim Jong Un's father, Kim Jong Il.

This meeting will purportedly boost bilateral relationships and contribute to the improvement of mutual, fair relationships between Russia and North Korea, according to Putin via KCNA. Both nations are striving to "intensively cultivate the multifaceted partnership."

In this article, the Kremlin leader applauded North Korea for safeguarding its interests "despite decades of economic sanctions, provocations, blackmail, and military threats from the United States." He also illustrated that Moscow and Pyongyang have kept their "shared views and shared stance" in the UN.

Reclusive North Korea seldom gets diplomatic visits. Pyongyang has been linked to supplying weapons to aid Russia's military campaign in Ukraine. Putin is actively searching for additional ammunition. The Russian President's visit is on the invitation of the North Korean leader, Kim, according to Kremlin statements.

During Putin's visit, several "significant documents" are expected to be signed, including a potential strategic partnership treaty, Russian news agencies reported, citing a Kremlin official.

The US voiced concern over the intensifying relationships between North Korea and Russia and their potential impact on the security of Ukraine and South Korea. "We are aware that North Korean ballistic missiles are still being employed to target Ukrainian targets," said the spokesperson for the National Security Council, John Kirby, on Monday in Washington. This could have "far-reaching consequences, which could potentially destabilize security on the Korean Peninsula."

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba termed the visit as a "one-man buddy-buddy relationship" between Putin and the North Korean leader Kim. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg nodded that the visit underscored how dependent Putin is on authoritarian leaders.

Asia expert Patrick Cronin from the Hudson Institute in Washington told the South Korean news agency Yonhap that Putin and Kim are two leaders of "countries with ailing economies, reveling in the spotlight as leaders to swap military technology and undermine the US-led order."

Since the kickoff of the offensive in Ukraine, Putin has significantly cut back on his foreign travel. Russia is under heavy international sanctions, and the Kremlin chief has been disinvited in most Western countries. The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant against him.

Following his sojourn in North Korea, Putin is expected to make a two-day visit to Vietnam, according to Kremlin announcements.
