Princess Kate presents cup at Wimbledon finale
The 42-year-old wore a lilac dress and smiled cheerfully at the joyful crowd before taking her seat in the royal box on the famous Centre Court at Wimbledon. Kate was accompanied by her sister Pippa Matthews and her nine-year-old daughter Charlotte.
After the tennis tournament final, the tennis-loving British princess presented the Trophy to the Spanish title defender Carlos Alcaraz, who managed to defeat the Serbian Grand Slam record holder Novak Djokovic once again.
Before the match, Kate spoke with several British players, including Emma Raducanu, who had lost in the quarterfinals. "It was so hard to see you go," Kate told her. "We play a lot with the family," she added.
The day before, Kate had announced in an online service that she would attend the Wimbledon final due to the "good progress" in her cancer treatment.
"Everyone knows that when you undergo chemotherapy, there are good and bad days," she wrote there. Her treatment would "still last some months." She hoped "that I can participate in some public engagements this summer," she continued. At the same time, Kate acknowledged, "I know I'm not over the hill yet."
Prince William was expected to attend the Men's Euro Football Championship final between England and Spain in Berlin on Sunday evening.
Princess Catherine, commonly known as Kate, made her first public appearance since her cancer diagnosis in mid-June. She rode in a carriage at the traditional Trooping the Colour birthday parade for King Charles III and waved from the balcony of Buckingham Palace with other members of the British royal family to the numerous onlookers.
King Charles III is currently undergoing cancer treatment. The cancer was diagnosed in him earlier in the year following a prostate operation. Since early May, he has resumed public engagements after a three-month break. The type of cancer Kate and the King are suffering from was not made public.
