North Rhine-Westphalia's top politician, Hendrik Wüst, showed respect to the late Christoph Daum. "My sympathies go out to his loved ones, including family and friends. We in North Rhine-Westphalia will carry Christoph Daum in our memories," Wüst mentioned to the German News Agency.

"Christoph Daum was essentially a 'recognizable figure' - straightforward, humorous comments, and a brilliant football manager, to put it simply," Wüst pointed out. "People either adored Christoph Daum or disliked him strongly. But he was always resilient and bounced back."

Right up until the end, the former Bundesliga coach for 1. FC Köln and Bayer Leverkusen battled against cancer. Regrettably, the 70-year-old lost his fight against the ailment on Saturday.

"Despite his valiant battle against cancer, sadly, Christoph Daum succumbed to the disease on Saturday, marking his untimely death."

"The passing of Christoph Daum leaves a void in the world of football, as we remember him not just for his coaching skills, but also his indomitable spirit in the face of death."
