- Prices for consumer goods experienced a less rapid increase in August.
August saw a slight decrease in inflation rates in Saxony-Anhalt. The State Statistical Office in Halle reported a 2.4% year-on-year rise in consumer prices. This figure was 0.2% lower than the 2.6% inflation rate recorded in both June and July. The decrease was largely due to a drop in fuel costs and cheaper vegetables.
Compared to the past year, customers witnessed a 7.8% price hike for dining out and staying in hotels and other forms of accommodation. The cost of alcohol and tobacco products also saw an increase of 4.5%.
On a positive note, household items such as furniture, lighting, appliances, and other household essentials became more affordable with a 1.8% decrease in price compared to the previous year. Services in the postal and telecommunications sector also experienced a 1.1% reduction in cost over the same period.
Despite the overall decrease in inflation rates, the price of dining out and staying in hotels still increased by 7.8% compared to the previous year. Shoppers benefited from a 1.8% decrease in the price of household items like furniture and appliances.
