Approaching the two-month mark prior to the presidential election, the opposing candidates will lock horns during their inaugural and presumably sole TV duel on Tuesday. This event will unfold on ABC's stage in Philadelphia, commencing at 9:00 PM ET (translating to 3:00 AM CEST the following day).

Anticipated topics for discussion encompass economic and migration policies, together with abortion and foreign affairs, furthermore incorporating the ongoing legal wrangles concerning Trump's alleged voting meddling. The candidates have yet to share a personal encounter, with Harris venturing into her debut debate while Trump, gunning for his third term, enters his seventh.

The outcome carries considerable weight, given the sway debates have held over U.S. presidential elections in the past. For sitting president Joe Biden, a subpar showing at the June 27 debate with Trump seemingly signaled an end to his ambitions to reclaim the Oval Office, despite his advanced years.

The debate's regulations have been carefully detailed. The microphone will remain off for the silent candidate. The debate will commence without opening statements, issuing each competitor a two-minute window for closing remarks.

Both candidates will be afforded two minutes for their responses, followed by two minutes for a counterargument. They will stand behind podiums, armed with solely a pen, notebook, and water bottle.

The audience will be absent from the premises, and there will be two intermissions where the campaign entourage will be barred from engaging with the contenders.

The first sentence: "Despite his preparations for the debate, recent polls show a close race between incumbent President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump."

The second sentence: "Regardless of the outcome, the debate is expected to provide insight into Trump's policies if he were to seek a third term as president."
