Previous Mainz Hacker Departs from Saudi Arabia

Last year, Alexander Haack's transition into a well-remunerated professional role in Saudi Arabia sparked a commotion. His journey has now concluded.

Ex-Bundesliga athlete Alexander Hack called it quits early from his agreement with Saudi Arabian second-tier team al-Qadisiyah FC, having spent only a year there. "This decision was made jointly with the club, it was a matter of my personal viewpoint and theirs," the 30-year-old shared with Kicker magazine.

Hack found little prospect for himself at the club following their elevation to the Saudi Pro League, a league where soccer sensation Cristiano Ronaldo also features for Al-Nassr FC, and a squad overhaul. "It was fascinating to immerse myself in a new culture, a new nation, and also numerous kind and sincere individuals," the defender reminisced. "But eventually, it was time to gather my belongings and conclude the journey." Initially, his contract was set to last until 2025.

No return to Mainz in sight

Hack represented FSV Mainz 05 from 2014 to 2023 before shifting to Saudi Arabia. He's had conversations with the club's new sports director Niko Bungert, but admitted: "Although the club still holds a special place in my heart, it's not the right moment to return yet."

Despite the opportunity to return to Mainz 05, Hack's passion for soccer might find a new outlet elsewhere, as he mentioned, "I still love playing soccer, and hopefully, I can find a suitable team soon." The news of Hack's departure from al-Qadisiyah FC has sparked interest in European clubs, as they look for experienced defenders in the transfer market.
