Previous compatriot in legal battles of a missing British magnate succumbs following a collision with an automobile.
Stephen Thompson, 52, a past financial VP at Lynch's ex-company Autonomy, encountered a vehicular mishap while jogging on a Saturday, as reported by his lawyer Gary Mills to CNN on Monday.
This situation unfolded merely two days prior to the disappearance of the British financier Lynch, 59, along with five others, after a tornado caused the sinking of their luxury yacht off the coast of Sicily around 3 AM on Monday.
Both Lynch and Thompson were vindicated of fraud charges in a San Francisco court in June, following accusations involving the Autonomy acquisition by Hewlett-Packard (HP) for $11 billion in 2011.
The prosecution had accused the duo of masterminding a plot to inflate Autonomy's revenue prior to its sale to HP.
Thompson was charged with the same 15 offenses - one count of conspiracy and 14 counts of wire fraud - as Lynch.
"He was a brave man with unmatched integrity. We profoundly mourn his loss. Steve valiantly cleared his clean reputation at trial this year, and his honorable reputation endures through his loving family," Mills stated.
On Monday, the Cambridgeshire Police made an appeal to witnesses of a collision between a man and a car in Stretham, Cambridgeshire.
The police announcement did not mention Thompson but indicated that a man in his 50s from Longstaton had been hit by a car on Saturday morning and was transported to the hospital with severe injuries.
The motorist, a 49-year-old woman, was aiding the police with their investigation, according to the police service.
Thompson's accident occurred while jogging in the UK on Saturday, as reported by his lawyer. Despite this incident, global attention was mainly on Lynch's disappearance off the coast of Sicily, involving the sinking of their yacht.
