Prestigious Kennedy Awards presented to stars such as Billy Crystal and Queen Latifah

The Kennedy Center Honors are among the most prestigious cultural awards in the USA. The award winners were seated in the presidential box with Biden and his wife Jill at the gala in the Kennedy Center Opera House. They had previously been received by Biden at the White House. The gala was hosted for the third time by singer Gloria Estefan, herself a Kennedy Center award winner.

The highlight of the evening was a performance by Oscar winner Ariana DeBose, who sang a medley of Bee Gee classics. The performance was "very emotional" for him because the presence of his deceased brothers Robin and Maurice was practically palpable in the room, said Gibb, who became world-famous with hits such as "Stayin' Alive" and "Nights On Broadway".

In honor of the 75-year-old Crystal, well-known colleagues such as Robert De Niro, Rob Reiner, Whoopi Goldberg and Meg Ryan took to the stage. The 53-year-old Queen Latifah was honored by actress Kerry Washington and rapper Missy Elliott. The laudatory speech for opera singer Fleming was held by actresses Sigourney Weaver and Christine Baranski. The 82-year-old Warwick sat smiling in the box as younger stars such as singer Chloe Bailey performed in her honor, including the soul classic "Walk On By".
