Pressure on KSC increases - Eichner: Important to get points
After slipping to the relegation zone, coach Christian Eichner is counting on a reaction from his Karlsruher SC. "Regardless of their position in the table, I expect the team to show that they can play good soccer on Saturday evening," said Christian Eichner, coach of the second-division club from Baden. On Saturday (20:30/Sky), the team from Baden will face relegated first division side Hertha BSC in a floodlit match. It is now important "to get one or three points in the account because there are not so many games left until Christmas," emphasized Eichner.
The long-standing fan friendship with the Berliners will not help KSC much, said Eichner. "It's a great story for the fans. Nevertheless, it's a second division game. Hertha will need the points, we will need them," said the coach. The fans of both clubs have been friends since 1976.
Last Sunday, the team from Baden plummeted to 16th place in the relegation zone with just twelve points and urgently need a win. Hertha, who were initially weak, are now four points better off.
Eichner is concerned about right-back Sebastian Jung, who had to leave the pitch early in the last game with thigh problems. "It doesn't look too optimistic at the moment," said the KSC coach, but would like to wait until at least Friday. Young striker Tim Rossmann, on the other hand, will be out for a longer period of time after undergoing hip surgery.
Despite their historical fan friendship with Hertha BSC, Eichner highlights the importance of Karlsruhe SC securing points in Bundesliga 2, especially with only a few games left until Christmas. On Saturday, Karlsruhe will face the relegated first division side, needing to play good Soccer to avoid slipping further in the standings.
