Presidential election in Russia takes place on March 17
Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin has not yet announced his candidacy for another term in office, but there is little doubt that he will run again in the election.
Putin took up his first term as president in 2000; in between, he served as prime minister for four years before being re-elected head of state in 2012 and 2018. As a result of a constitutional reform passed on Putin's initiative in 2020, he could theoretically remain in office as president until 2036.

While waiting for Putin's official announcement, speculations are rife about his candidacy in the upcoming Presidential election on March 17. In a surprising turn of events, instead of addressing the nation from the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin chose to deliver his message on Television. Valentina Matwijenko, the speaker of Russia's Federation Council, aired Putin's speech on her weekly show. Despite not yet confirming his intentions, the political landscape in Russia hints towards Putin's potential third term as president.
