Agriculture - President of the Chamber of Agriculture: Volquardsen re-elected

Ute Volquardsen has been re-elected as President of the Schleswig-Holstein Chamber of Agriculture. The 59-year-old was unanimously elected for a further five years with 58 votes at the Annual General Meeting in Rendsburg on Thursday, as the chamber announced. She is still the only woman in Germany to head a chamber of agriculture.

"For me, this office is a clear mandate to continue to align the Chamber with the pressing practical issues in agriculture as well as in the areas of forestry, horticulture and fisheries," she said in a statement after the election.

The state-certified rural housekeeping manager was elected President for the first time in 2018. Volquardsen runs an arable farm with laying hens and a farm store with her family in North Friesland. This also includes suckler cow, poultry and pig farming for direct marketing.

During her tenure, Volquardsen aimed to keep the Chamber of Agriculture in Schleswig-Holstein aligned with the agrarian issues in fields like agriculture, forestry, horticulture, and fisheries, as demonstrated at the Annual General Meeting held in Rendsburg. Despite being the only woman in Germany to lead a chamber of agriculture, Volquardsen continued to manage an arable farm, layer hen operation, and a family-run farm store in North Friesland, which includes cattle, poultry, and pig farming for direct marketing, all in the rural region of Schleswig-Holstein.
