National policy - Preliminary decision on the controversial 2024 budget is made
On Thursday (10.00 a.m.) in Erfurt, the state parliament's finance committee will set the course for Thuringia to receive a state budget for 2024. Following the compromise between the red-red-green government coalition and the opposition CDU parliamentary group, a large number of corrections need to be made to the government's draft budget, which has a record volume of 13.8 billion euros.
At the insistence of the CDU, a number of cuts will have to be made and some red-red-green projects, such as the third year of free childcare, will probably be scrapped because there is not enough money. If the committee reaches an agreement, the state parliament can pass the budget as planned on December 20 and the money can start flowing in January.
