Emergencies - "Pre-Christmas miracle": Man rescued from the icy Weser
A 57-year-old man in Bremen was rescued from the freezing Weser by quick-witted passers-by and police officers. According to the police, the man fell into the river in the old town on Sunday night. He was unable to return to the bank under his own power, the current was threatening to carry him away. Witnesses alerted the police and threw the man a lifebuoy. Police dog handlers quickly arrived and kept the 57-year-old afloat with a dog leash. Other helpers then pulled the severely hypothermic 57-year-old safely out of the Weser. He was taken to hospital, but his life was not in danger.
According to initial findings, the tourist from Lower Saxony wanted to board a hotel boat, the police said. He fell into the water between the jetty and the boat. In connection with the rescue, the authorities spoke of a "small pre-Christmas miracle".
