- Praises Valiant Intervention Following Knife Assault by Reul
Valiant Acts of Several Individuals Likely Thwarted a Severe Incident in Bus Stabbing Incident in Siegen
The heroic actions of several individuals possibly prevented a more catastrophic incident in a bus stabbing incident in Siegen. Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) in Solingen labeled the initiatives of women and men who intervened and deterred the worst as "an extraordinary tale." He commended the individuals who offered aid, intervened, and restrained the assailant.
Those involved hailed from diverse backgrounds. If they indeed were residents with a migration history, Reul noted, "that can also elicit a sense of pride." He underscored that there are numerous vigilant, intelligent citizens, and that society is more robust than we might assume. Assuming responsibilities, as the individuals on the bus did, coupled with unity and solidarity, serves as "the bedrock for much."
As per a report by the "Siegener Zeitung," it was three women with a migration background who responded swiftly following the attack and subdued the attacker. Siegen's mayor, Steffen Mues, and the superintendent of the evangelical church circle Siegen-Wittgenstein, Peter-Thomas Stuberg, reported this based on eyewitness accounts.
Six Individuals Sustained Injuries
On a Friday evening, a 32-year-old German woman unexpectedly attacked individuals with a knife in a shuttle bus headed for the city festival. At least six people were injured, with three in critical condition. The 32-year-old is known to the authorities, and there are hints of a mental health concern. The city festival resumed on Saturday with a church service.
A representative for the Westphalian-South transport company informed the "Sieger Zeitung" that the bus driver acted swiftly, halting the bus promptly after the initial chaos and opening all doors. This enabled passengers to swiftly exit the bus and potentially forestall additional harm. According to the newspaper report, children and adolescents were also on the bus.
Men and boys, along with the women, played crucial roles in preventing further harm during the bus stabbing incident in Siegen. The swift actions of these individuals, including several boys, helped subdue the attacker and ensure the safety of others.
The attack on the bus happened to include young passengers as well. These boys and men, alongside the women, displayed courage and quick thinking that contributed to minimizing the damage caused by the incident.
