Praise for Füchse all-rounder Ludwig: "Earned respect"
The Füchse Berlin team had a very busy player on Sunday. Goalkeeper Lasse Ludwig was not only in the box in the second half of the 37:31 home win against HSV Hamburg in the German Handball League. Shortly afterwards, the 21-year-old was once again in goal in the Max-Schmeling-Halle in the second division clash between 1. VfL Potsdam and VfL Lübeck-Schwartau (28:27).
The U21 world champion, who is eligible to play for the Füchse and their cooperation partner Potsdam, made seven saves and played a key role in helping the Berlin club turn the game around against HSV in the second half. "I'm happy that I was able to help the team," he said modestly afterwards.
However, the long playing time was not actually planned. "The way Dejan is at the moment, I couldn't have expected it," he reported. But regular keeper Dejan Milosavljev was weakening. He therefore received praise from the Head of Sport Stefan Kretzschmar. "He's been an integral part of our team for some time now. He found his form in Potsdam and has earned more and more respect in the team," he said.
And his match marathon continues. On Monday, the team traveled via Frankfurt and Geneva to Chambéry Savoie, where the Foxes have to play in the European League on Tuesday (18:45/Dyn). "It's the toughest season for me. I have the feeling that we're away for five days every other week. It's not always fun," complained veteran Hans Lindberg.
The Foxes have already qualified for the next round, so there's nothing at stake in sporting terms. "We'll try to rotate without giving up the game. But the focus is certainly more on Friday and the away game in Wetzlar," said coach Jaron Siewert.
Despite the busy schedule, Ludwig continued his stellar performance in the EHF European League. The Foxes Berlin traveled to Chambéry Savoie, and Ludwig played a crucial role in their match against HSV Hamburg in the Bundesliga as well. Despite regular goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev's weakness, Ludwig performed exceptionally well in the German Handball League, earning praise from Head of Sport Stefan Kretzschmar who acknowledged Ludwig's key contributions and the growing respect he has earned within the team.
