European Football Championship - Praise for EM fans in Frankfurt

After the last EM-game in Frankfurt, the city and police draw a positive balance. The arrival and departure to the stadium or the fan zone were "so far largely smooth-running", it was stated on Tuesday. No notable incidents occurred.

230,000 fans were reportedly present at the five stadium days according to the city. Most fans arrived in an eco-friendly way by bus, tram and train. At the main station, around 100,000 travelers more were counted per day than usual.

Approximately 500 football fans gathered on Monday in front of the Portuguese team hotel to see superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. The rescue services had to be called, presumably due to circulation problems caused by the large crowd, the Frankfurt Police reported. Police had to escort the team bus laterally to prevent fans from being endangered.

The police also drew a positive balance of the fan attendance to the EM-quarterfinal Portugal-Slovenia in the Frankfurt Stadium on Monday. Only sporadically was pyrotechnics used. Thousands of Portuguese and Slovenian fans were counted in the city before the game. Accordingly, around 2,500 Portuguese fans and around 500 Slovenian fans were on the move towards the main station and stadium.

"During the day, several thousands of football fans from both sides went to the fan zone at the Main riverbank to watch the matches on the large screens and celebrate peacefully", the police statement read. After the game, the city center emptied gradually.
