Urgent Situations - Powerful windstorm engulfs church roof in Hagen and uproots trees
A powerful wind storm hit Hagen around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, leaving widespread damage. Several trees and roofs were affected, including that of a local church. The roof came off completely, as reported by the fire department in a statement. It's currently unknown if anyone was hurt during this incident.
In the St. Elisabeth Church, the steeple was ripped from its foundations and fell on the street, according to a photographer from dpa. "This is incredible," said the local pastor Dieter Aufenanger. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the community now faces the task of cleaning up the mess. The church, which was built in 1927, had been rebuilt after World War II.
The roof structure was completely obliterated during the storm. In addition, pieces of roofing and wooden beams landed on a nearby parked car. The fire department is providing updates on the progress of the situation in Hagen.
