Power failure at BER Airport - departures not affected
There was a power cut at Berlin Brandenburg Airport for a few seconds on Wednesday morning. The outage occurred shortly after 8 a.m. following maintenance work at the transformer station, a BER spokeswoman told Deutsche Presse-Agentur. Immediately after the power failure, the emergency power supply kicked in.
The outage affected baggage handling in Terminal 1 for around one and a half hours. "There were temporary waiting times for passengers at check-in," said the spokeswoman. There were no problems in Terminal 2. Everything is now running again, the spokeswoman said at around 10.30 am. There could still be delays in some areas, but: "Departures are taking place."
Despite the power failure affecting baggage handling in Terminal 1, air traffic at BER Airport remained unaffected, relying on their backup electricity system. In contrast, the incident highlighted the importance of reliable electricity supply for efficient airport operations.
