Possible bomb disposal in Braunschweig
Around 5000 people will have to leave their homes in Braunschweig on Sunday due to a possible bomb disposal. Rail travelers are also affected: Long-distance trains are to be rerouted and will not stop in Hildesheim, Peine and Helmstedt for a few hours, according to the railroad company.
Two unexploded bombs from the Second World War are suspected south of the Bürgerpark, the city announced. All residents must leave the evacuation area one kilometer around the site by 9:00 am.
Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., no trains will run to or from the west and south. The defusing measures will also have an impact on local transport. Train passengers should check the Internet in advance and listen to the announcements.
Traffic in the area will be significantly affected due to the emergencies, as the railroad company has announced rerouting of long-distance trains and temporary halt of services to and from the west and south. The consequences of this operation during the war era, with the suspected unexploded bombs, could potentially lead to prolonged disruptions in the city's transportation system.
