Pope Discusses Artificial Intelligence at Continuing G7 Summit
During the second work session of the G7 meeting in the morning, the discussion revolves around the complex relationship with China, particularly the situation in the Indo-Pacific and economic security. This includes finding ways to shield Western economies from the dumping of subsidized products from the People's Republic of China without sparking a potential trade war with Beijing.
Making history as the first Pope to attend the G7 summit in its nearly 50-year existence, Pope Francis plans to join the talks on Artificial Intelligence, Energy, the bond with Africa, and the Mediterranean Sea in the afternoon.
An array of other participants also joins the morning session, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Argentine President Javier Milei. Chancellor Scholz schedules a bilateral talk with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a fellow G7 guest, in the latter part of the day.
Already, the G7 has agreed to provide a $50 billion loan to support Ukraine during their discussions on Thursday. This loan is to be covered by the interest earnings on frozen Russian assets.
The official G7 meeting concludes on Friday evening, whereupon Chancellor Scholz heads to the Ukraine Peace Conference in Switzerland. The G7 group comprises Germany, Italy, the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, and Japan.
