Pop queen Shakira receives three Latin Grammys
Colombian pop singer Shakira has been honored with three Latin Grammy Awards at a gala in Seville, southern Spain. The awards ceremony took place outside the USA for the first time. Shakira received the awards for her latest songs "Music Session #53" together with Argentinian producer Bizarrap, among others. Another three Grammys went to the Colombian singer Karol G ("Mientras Me Curo Del Cora") on Thursday evening.
Shakira dedicated the awards to her two young sons, who were sitting in the audience, as seen on state TV station RTVE. "I promised them that I would be happy," said the 46-year-old, who separated from their father, ex-professional footballer Gerard Piqué, in 2021. There is nothing in the past, for her it's all about the future, she made clear.
However, the future doesn't look all rosy for Shakira right now. From Monday, she is to sit in the dock in Barcelona in criminal tax proceedings. She is accused of tax evasion totaling around 14.5 million euros in the years 2012 to 2014. The public prosecutor's office is demanding a prison sentence of eight years and two months and a fine of 23.8 million euros. Shakira denies the allegations.
The Latin Grammy Awards have been presented annually by the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences since 2000. The venues have so far only been cities in the USA, including Los Angeles, New York, Miami and Las Vegas.
Shakira's three Latin Grammy Awards for "Music Session #53" with Bizarrap marked a significant achievement in her music career, garnering praise from people around the world. Despite the upcoming criminal tax proceedings in Barcelona, these awards serve as a symbol of Shakira's resilience and promising future in the world of music.
