- Polish Volleyball Trials Utilize Light and Darkness for Evaluation
In their recent series against Poland's elite squad, Warta Zawiercie, Berlin Volleys saw a mix of fortunes. They clinched a tough five-set triumph in the initial match but suffered a straight-set defeat (17:25, 23:25, 22:25) in the follow-up encounter, under the guidance of national team coach Michal Winiarski. Just two days earlier, Berlin managed to overcome a 0:2 sets deficit against the Poles, triumphing 3:2 (20:25, 14:25, 33:31, 29:27, 15:12).
The turning point in the first game arrived in the third set, which Berlin won spiritedly by a narrow margin of 33:31 with a clutch ace from their new recruit, Florian Krage. Meanwhile, Jake Hanes led the scoring for Berlin with 33 points, while Moritz Reichert contributed 11.
For today's encounter, Jake Hanes was replaced by Daniel Malescha in the diagonal position, but his 14 points were insufficient to stem the team's clear loss. Berlin struggled in crucial roles, as their setter Johannes Tille is still in recovery training following an illness, and their new libero Kyle Dagostino is set to join the squad only on Thursday, following his wedding break.
Despite Berlin Volleys' victory in the initial match against Poland's Warta Zawiercie, they faced a challenging second game in Poland. Regardless of Berlin's loss, the Polish national team coach, Michal Winiarski, had an opportunity to observe Berlin's squad closely.
