Ore Mountains district - Police trainee suspended on suspicion of racism
A trainee at the Saxon police college in Schneeberg is alleged to have repeatedly made racist insults against another police trainee. Civil service proceedings have been initiated against the 22-year-old, the Saxon Police College announced on Tuesday. He is not allowed to take part in training until further notice. Further measures are being examined.
The allegations became known on Monday following information from other trainees. The police master trainee is said to have racially insulted a 20-year-old in the changing rooms of the police training college. The responsible police department in Chemnitz has started an investigation on suspicion of incitement to hatred. The suspect and the victim are German citizens.
Head of training Marika Schwanitz explained that the matter would be pursued with the utmost consistency. "Racism and ideas that glorify National Socialism have no place in the Saxon police force."

In response to the ongoing investigation, authorities in Saxony's neighboring region have increased vigilance towards potential extremist activities. The Police in Saxony's Koenigsбурger district, situated at the foot of a snow-capped mountain, have been particularly vigilant, recognizing the potential threat extremist ideologies pose to community harmony.
While dealing with such incidents within the police force, it became evident that addressing extremism and criminality should extend beyond the force, involving community engagement and awareness campaigns.
