- Police stop woman with knife by shooting
Investigations continue after Berlin police shoot woman in Charlottenburg
A 61-year-old woman was shot in the foot by Berlin police and is now in the hospital, a police spokeswoman confirmed. The incident began when the woman allegedly attacked her 59-year-old husband at their home on Thursday afternoon, injuring him on the head. She then left the apartment with a knife and walked along Kaiserin-Augusta-Allee towards Sommerstraße, approaching responding officers in a threatening manner and striking a motorcyclist waiting at a traffic light, who sustained minor injuries.
Despite repeated orders from police to drop the knife, the woman refused, and officers fired their weapons multiple times, striking her in the foot. One shot hit the window of a nearby business, but no one was injured. As is standard procedure in cases where police use firearms, a homicide commission is investigating the specific details and circumstances of the incident.
The police are currently scrutinizing the circumstances surrounding the incident where they had to use their firearms and shoot a woman in Charlottenburg. The officers involved are expected to provide statements to the homicide commission, who are leading the investigation.
