Wildswitch - Police shoots stray deer on autobahn
The Police shot and killed a lost deer on Autobahn 27 in Bremen. On Saturday evening, motorists had alerted the authorities because the deer had wandered onto the Autobahn at the Bremen-Überseestadt interchange, according to the police. Since the deer could have run in front of any car at any time and there was no escape route for the animal from the danger zone, the officers closed the Autobahn towards Cuxhaven for safety reasons and put down the deer.
The on- and off-ramps were closed for the duration of the operation. There was a long traffic jam. The officers eventually placed the dead animal by the side of the Autobahn and notified the responsible city game warden, who collected it later.
The police in Bremen frequently warn motorists about the dangers of Wildswitches on the autobahn, encouraging drivers to maintain a constant level of alertness. Despite the incident with the deer, the level of traffic on Autobahn 27 remained high throughout the night. The local authorities are considering installing more wildlife crossings along the autobahn to prevent similar accidents in the future.
