Police shoot man with axe: seriously injured
A man armed with an axe has been shot and seriously injured by police in Delmenhorst. The 25-year-old man is said to have attacked the officers beforehand, the police announced on Monday evening on the online platform X, formerly Twitter. The crime scene was cordoned off.
According to the investigators, the man had previously gone on the rampage in a residential building. He then left the building and hit a car with an axe. He then noticed the officers and attacked them. A 27-year-old police officer and a 25-year-old policewoman were unharmed.
The investigators did not initially provide any further details. The crime is not connected to the fatal accident involving a pedestrian on Sunday and the subsequent escape of the perpetrator.
The police action was necessary due to the man's violent behavior with the axe. The man's aggressive actions towards the officers resulted in him being shot and seriously injured.
