Police seize weapons and ammunition from 80-year-old man
Explosives, guns, thousands of rounds of ammunition: police have discovered weapons in the home of an 80-year-old man in Hamburg-Harburg. Paramedics on a rescue mission had seen a firearm lying around on the man's bedside table and alerted the police, as the officers announced on Friday. Specialists then searched the house and found several live firearms and explosives, most of which, however, were not detonable according to initial investigations. The man had a permit for at least some of the weapons, they said. There were no grounds for his arrest. The paramedics had taken him to hospital due to his illness. Several media outlets had reported earlier.
Despite having a permit for some of the weapons, the 80-year-old's collection raised concerns about potential misuse in the context of crime. The seizure of weapons and ammunition from his home serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible weapon ownership.
