Two police officers rescued an elderly woman from a burning apartment in Nuremberg this morning. The 86-year-old suffered injuries from smoke inhalation, as did the two officers.

As a spokesperson for the police reported, a fire broke out in the apartment early in the morning for unknown reasons. Upon arrival, officers noticed heavy smoke coming from a window and the elderly woman standing on a balcony. Unable to communicate with her, the officers decided to enter the apartment and rescue the woman. Adjacent apartments were also evacuated.

All three were taken to the hospital. The officers were able to leave the hospital later in the morning, but they are not fit for duty for the time being. The police are investigating the cause of the fire. The extent of the damage cannot yet be determined.

The elderly woman resided in the affected apartment in the heart of Nuremberg, known as Bavaria's second-largest city. The police department in Bavaria commended the officers for their quick and brave actions.
