- Police report a man shot dead
Following the fatal police intervention in an apartment in Oberkirch (Ortenaukreis), a preliminary autopsy report has been released. The 39-year-old died from a gunshot wound to his main artery in the upper body, according to a joint statement from the public prosecutor's office and police. There are no indications of any misconduct by the officers who shot the man.
A 3D survey was conducted at the scene of the incident to determine the exact sequence of events. The traces have been secured and are now being examined by criminal technicians. A ballistic report is being obtained. The investigations will take some time.
Man attacked police with knives
The man was shot dead by a police officer at the end of July during a police operation. The officers had been called to his apartment because a doctor had informed the police that the mentally disturbed man intended to take his own life.
When the police arrived, he threw a knife at them. No one was injured by the throw. He then approached the officers with a previously concealed knife in a threatening manner. Despite repeated orders to drop the knife, the man continued to threaten the officers.
The officers then reportedly fired several shots. The exact number and how many hit the man are still being investigated, a spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office said. The 39-year-old died despite resuscitation efforts at the scene.
