Extremism - Police record more hate posts online

The Saxon police have recorded significantly more hate postings on the internet this year. So far, there have been 488 cases, the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) announced on Friday. There were 316 cases last year and 213 the year before.

It was only on Thursday that searches and interrogations were carried out in Saxony to mark the Europe-wide day of action to combat hate postings. Nine men and one woman between the ages of 21 and 60 are being investigated.

The majority of hate comments (280) this year came from the political right-wing spectrum. According to the information provided, 54 cases had a left-wing background. There were also cases of foreign (7) and religious (8) ideology and other attributions (139).

According to the LKA, almost half of the cases involved incitement to hatred. A total of 222 postings were recorded on suspicion of this offense. In addition, there were 59 postings with slander or defamation of politicians, followed by 54 cases of the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations.

The LKA appealed to people to remain respectful and objective, even in the digital space. Anyone who comes across hate postings on the internet should report them to the police. Screenshots should also be taken and user profile information should be saved. Hate comments should also be reported to the operators of social networks.
