Police put a stop to car thieves

The thieves break into cars in five federal states and take them across the border to Poland. There, the cars are sold in parts or in their entirety. The police have now tracked down the gang.

Crime - Police put a stop to car thieves

The public prosecutor's office in Stralsund has brought charges against two men for serious car theft. The two men, aged 31 and 27, are suspected of stealing cars in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Schleswig-Holstein, Brandenburg, Nordrhine-Westphalia, and Lower Saxony since May 2022, intending to sell them as a whole or in parts in Poland. The 31-year-old is charged with 22 cases, and the 27-year-old with five cases. The damage incurred amounts to approximately 190,000 Euro.

Both suspects are in custody. The main public prosecutor's office in Stralsund filed the indictment at the Regional Court in Schwerin. In case of conviction, the offenders face long prison sentences. The 31-year-old is considered the main suspect and head of the gang. A total of seven members of this gang were arrested in Germany and Poland.
