- Police pull "Last Generation" activists off the street
Climate activists from "The Last Generation" briefly attempted to disrupt traffic in Cologne. Eighteen people intended to sit on a city street, viewing this as a symbol for increased climate protection and against the CO2 emissions of passing cars. They carried banners with slogans like "Oil kills" and other statements emphasizing the urgency of tougher climate protection measures.
However, the police were present in large numbers, having been tipped off via social media about the action. Officers quickly removed the activists from the road, allowing traffic to resume as normal. The police recorded the individuals' details and are now investigating whether the 18 people committed an administrative offense by violating the duty of care on the roads.
The climate, being a topic of concerns for many activists, was the underlying reason for the protest by "The Last Generation". Despite their efforts to draw attention to the issue by disrupting traffic, the activists were swiftly removed by the police, who were alerted about the planned action.
