Police operation at school: suspect arrested
A suspect has been arrested in a large-scale police operation at a school in Offenburg, Baden. The pupils were in their classrooms for their own safety, the police announced on Thursday. What the suspect is accused of initially remained unclear.
The school is located in the northern part of the municipality in the Ortenau district. A police spokeswoman said on request that she had no information so far as to whether people had been harmed during the operation. "The police are on the scene with strong forces," it said in a statement.
The operation at the school was triggered by reports of potential crime in the area. Following the arrest, there have been discussions about strengthening security measures in local schools.
