Radical beliefs and attitudes - Police officials in MV honor the fallen officer from Mannheim's force.
Recently, in Mannheim, a police officer known as Rouven Laur was tragically killed after an attack by a 25-year-old Afghan man wielding a knife. The incident left many officers from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern saddened. About 600 police officers gathered on Schwerin Market Square to honor their fallen brother and observe a minute of silence, accompanied by some passers-by.
According to the official narrative, the Afghan man attacked five members of the anti-Islamic group Pax Europa along with a 29-year-old police officer. The officer perished on Sunday from the injuries sustained during the unprovoked attack. Interior Minister Christian Pegel from SPD expressed gratitude to everyone for their undying support. Police officers, firefighters, and customs officials were also present at the event, reinforcing the message of camaraderie and fostering a strong animosity against any form of violence or attacks on the police force.
In response to the tragic incident, Pegel ordered a flag of mourning for the state. The flags around the parliament, state chancellery, and state police headquarters were lowered to half-mast. During the same period of 11:34 a.m., police officers positioned themselves in front of their stations across the state, paying their respects to their fallen comrade.
The attacker fatally stabbed Laur, who was attempting to prevent any harm from befalling Pax Europa supporters. A fellow officer shot the perpetrator in retaliation when he posed a threat. The case was entrusted to the Federal Prosecutor's Office, and the severity of the attacker's injuries hindered him from being interrogated.
Minister Pegel took the opportunity to acknowledge the extreme dedication of the firefighters amidst the recent floods in southern Germany. Despite the immediate loss of their fellow firefighters, the incident showcased the brave effort put forth by all 'blue light' organizations to protect people's lives. This heart-wrenching event reminds us of how officers, firefighters, and other rescue personnel put their lives on the line every day to ensure the safety and welfare of citizens.
