A 30-year-old man died after collapsing during his arrest in Charlottenburg on Saturday, according to the police. As is usual in such cases, a homicide squad is now investigating, among other things, whether there is a connection between the police operation and the young man's death, the police said.

The reason for the arrest late on Friday evening was that the man had been shouting and destroying bicycles in the courtyard of an apartment building on Guerickestraße. When police officers attempted to arrest him, the 30-year-old initially dropped to the ground, hit out and spat in the direction of the officers, according to the police report.

During the arrest, the man collapsed and stopped breathing. The officers resuscitated him together with the emergency services. A heart attack was diagnosed at the hospital.
