Emergencies - Police investigate attempted murder after explosion

After the explosion in Solingen resulting in one fatality and four injured, a 25-member murder commission and the prosecutor's office are investigating a suspected murder case. The identity of the deceased suspect was initially unclear, according to further statements from the police on Wednesday.

The police believe that the man dropped a bottle with an unspecified substance on the pavement on Tuesday. The bottle reportedly shattered upon impact, causing an explosion. The man was flown to a specialist clinic with severe injuries and died there a few hours later.

Investigators interviewed neighbors and potential witnesses on Wednesday and are unable to identify a political motive for the crime at this stage, according to the Wuppertal Police. "The investigations are still ongoing to fully clarify the background."

To identify the suspect and reconstruct the details of the crime scene, the "Mordkommission Jordan" once again appealed to the public. In addition to a witness tip line where photo and video material, as well as other observations, can be reported and uploaded to the criminal police, a tip hotline has also been set up.

During the explosion in front of a residential and commercial building, windows were shattered. Four additional people were lightly injured by shattered glass or a loud bang and were treated in the hospital. According to reports, they were a seven-year-old girl, two women aged 35 and 45, and a 38-year-old man.
