Following a fire in a clinic in Frankenthal, the police are investigating the cause of the fire and death. Two bodies were found on Monday evening during the fire-fighting work in the city clinic. A police spokesman said on Tuesday morning that an investigation by an arson investigator was planned. According to reports from the night, six people were seriously injured in the fire, three of them critically. These included staff from the city clinic. It was initially unclear during the night whether there were any other casualties and the nature of the injuries. No further details of the fatalities were given for the time being.

According to the fire department, the fire was reported in the evening in a patient room on the second floor. The fire department praised the hospital staff for bringing patients from adjacent rooms in the ward. The patients were transferred to the other areas of the hospital.

According to the information provided, the intensive care unit, the entire operating theater, the recovery ward and the delivery room are still operational. The rest of the hospital's operations were also unaffected by the fire. According to its own website, the clinic employs around 700 people. There are 315 inpatient beds and day clinic places available.
