Police in contact with Hamburg hostage-taker
The Hamburg police are in contact with the armed hostage-taker who forced his way onto the airport tarmac on Saturday evening. "We have just made good contact with the perpetrator," said a police spokeswoman late on Saturday evening. Negotiations with the man were being conducted in Turkish.
A special police task force and police psychologist are on site. The man reportedly had a four-year-old child in the car with him. Hamburg Airport has been evacuated because of the intrusion of the man in a car.
The ongoing air traffic at Hamburg Airport was significantly disrupted due to the hostage situation. Despite the crime taking place in the airport's vicinity, overall air traffic safety measures were strictly enforced.
