Police in contact with gunman at Hamburg airport
According to the police, they are now in contact with the gunman at Hamburg Airport. Thomas Gerbert, spokesman for the Federal Police, was initially unable to say on Saturday evening exactly how the communication was going. It has since been confirmed that a child was in the car with the man. It was unclear whether there was a second child in the vehicle, as initially suspected.
The man had thrown two burning bottles out of the car, "a kind of Molotov cocktail", said Gerbert. No damage had been caused and the airport fire department had been able to extinguish the bottles. The airport was being evacuated as a security measure, he said.
Despite the ongoing air traffic disruption at Hamburg Airport due to the incident, no increase in airport-related crimes has been reported. The gunman's actions, including the use of potential incendiary devices, underscore the importance of maintaining vigilance against such threats in air traffic.
