Arrests - Police draw up balance for Christopher Street Day in Berlin
In Berlin, the Police have drawn up a balance for Christopher Street Day. During the main event with over 250,000 visitors, which proceeded in an unrestrained and peaceful manner, there were several confrontations between demonstrators and the police at the simultaneous "Internationalist Queer Pride" event in Neukölln, it was reported.
At the head of the procession, where solidarity with Palestine was demanded, there were approximately 5,600 participants on Saturday. Some of them threw glass bottles and paint cans at police officers and press representatives. Additionally, provocative speech choirs were chanted and symbols of unconstitutional organizations were displayed.
In the course of the three assemblies on the Middle East conflict on Saturday, 31 people were arrested preventively, reported the police. In addition, 37 investigative proceedings were initiated, among other things, for bodily harm, assault on officers, especially serious breaches of the peace, and theft. Twelve police officers were injured.
During the largely peaceful Christopher Street Day itself with around 250,000 visitors, there were 58 preventive arrests. Thirty-three investigative proceedings were initiated, among other things, for insults, grievous bodily harm, damage to property, resistance against bailiffs, robbery, and crimes against sexual self-determination.
At the beginning of the CSD, the police stopped a group of right-wingers who tried to join the procession. The approximately 30 people were prevented from continuing and searched. Since it could not be excluded that the group planned homophobic or transphobic actions, the people were brought before a judge and initially taken into police custody.
