Police discover illegal cannabis plantation in barn

A new law has made it easier to grow cannabis. However, the plantation that investigators discovered in a barn is still illegal. The police provisionally arrested a man.

Crime - Police discover illegal cannabis plantation in barn

Police discovered an illegal cannabis plantation with 86 plants in a barn in Schwalmstadt, north Hesse. As the police announced on Friday, equipment for cultivation was also found during the search on Wednesday. A 55-year-old suspect from the Schwalm-Eder-District was temporarily taken into custody. The man is currently back in freedom, and the investigation is ongoing.

The police pointed out that such plantations are still prohibited under the new Cannabis Law. Starting on Monday, July 1 (1. July), growing cannabis plants is allowed in specific clubs.

Police statement

The suspect hails from the Schwalm-Eder-District, which is located within Hesse's borders. Under the recently enacted Cannabis Law, operating a cannabis plantation like the one found in Schwalmstadt remains illegal. Despite being temporarily detained, the individual is now back in freedom while the investigation continues.
