Police catch wanted "Reichsbürger" at the border

During border controls, the police in Upper Bavaria apprehended a suspected supporter of the "Reichsbürger" scene who was wanted on a warrant. However, the 32-year-old was not able to identify himself with a document recognized in Germany - instead, the man pulled out a supposed passport with the inscription "Deutsches Reich" (German Reich), as the federal police announced on Tuesday.

"Reich citizens" and so-called self-administrators do not recognize the Federal Republic of Germany as a state. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution estimates that the scene has around 23,000 followers - and the trend is rising.

Using his fingerprints, the officers finally identified the 32-year-old after checking him at the Austrian border near Kiefersfelden (Rosenheim district). It emerged on Tuesday night that the man had been sentenced to a fine for assault in 2020. As he has not yet paid this fine, he now has to spend 132 days in prison. In addition, the man from Rosenheim, who was traveling on foot in the border area, is likely to face proceedings for forgery of documents.

The suspect's past involvement in a crime surfaced as authorities revealed he was sentenced to a fine for assault in 2020, which he has yet to pay. Furthermore, his travels in Upper Bavaria near the Austrian border raise concerns about possible document forgery charges.
