Hamburg-Harburg - Police catch possible serial burglar

Thanks to an alarm on a resident's cell phone, police in Hamburg-Harburg have caught a burglar red-handed who is believed to be responsible for several cellar break-ins. The 37-year-old was found by the officers in the cellar of the apartment building, the police announced on Thursday. Two other cellar compartments had also been broken into on Tuesday morning. The officers also found iron files in his belongings as possible burglary tools.

Whether and which other break-ins can be attributed to the man is now being investigated. According to the information provided, there are indications that he could be responsible for 47 further crimes in Harburg, Heimfeld and Eißendorf in November alone. A judge issued a pre-trial detention order on Wednesday due to the risk of flight and repetition.
