Police arrest suspected metal thieves

After a tip from a local resident, the police arrested three suspected copper thieves. However, a statement from a suspect raises questions.

- Police arrest suspected metal thieves

Police officers near Hildesheim apprehended three suspected metal thieves. The three men and teenagers, aged 15, 17, and 18, allegedly stole copper pipes from a construction site at a kindergarten on Thursday night, the police reported. Officers stopped the getaway vehicle near the scene of the crime.

A resident reportedly witnessed the theft and alerted the police. During a search of the car, officers found 29 copper pipe sections and copper cables. The 18-year-old allegedly told police that someone had allowed him to take the metal. Further investigations into the exact property ownership are ongoing.

The resident who reported the theft expressed gratitude to the police for their swift response. The three individuals in custody are now facing charges from the local police department.
