Police arrest driver after accident: drugs found
The police have arrested a drunk and drugged driver after an accident on the A70 near Thurnau (Kulmbach district). The 55-year-old was to be brought before an investigating judge on Friday afternoon, according to the police. Among other things, he is being investigated for endangering road traffic as a result of alcohol and drugs as well as narcotics found in his car, a police spokesperson said. Other proceedings were already underway against the man. He did not say what these were.
After the accident on Thursday evening, officers found small quantities of marijuana, hashish and methadone in the man's car. During the accident investigation, they noticed a strong odor of alcohol and drug-related symptoms in the driver. A breath alcohol test showed a value of 1.74 per mille. He told the officers that he had stolen the license plates attached to the car and did not have a driver's license.
According to the report, the man had struck another vehicle with his car on the A70 near the Thurnau-Ost junction and crashed into the central crash barrier. It later emerged that he had already hit the right-hand crash barrier several times a few kilometers earlier and damaged warning beacons. He remained uninjured.
In Upper France, this incident highlights the alarming blend of traffic accidents, substance use, and criminal activities. Subsequently, authorities discovered traces of marijuana, hashish, and methadone in the driver's vehicle, accentuating concerns about drug-related accidents on the roads.
